For chilled water, there are a few different types of pipelines. They are constructed from a variety of materials that meet a range of production criteria. As a result, they have varying features depending on the application. The majority of chilled water pipelines are already insulated. To be clear, we’re talking about the pre-insulated pipe carrying pipe here. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the many types of chilled water pipes and debunk the misconception.

Carbon Steel Pipe (Black Steel Pipe)

Carbon steel pipes are the most popular type of chilled water pipe. The term “carbon steel pipe” refers to a steel pipe that contains higher carbon. An alloy steel pipe, on the other hand, has additional components. It is made up of an alloy and carbon combination. Due to the sheer black hue of the carbon steel surface, it is usually referred to as black steel pipes. When erosion resistance is required, however, galvanized carbon steel pipes with a silver tint can be utilized for cold water. Carbon steel pipes come in three different forms for chilled water applications. Different pipe sizes require different types. They are constructed in line with many pipe standards at the same time.

Galvanized Carbon Steel Pipe

When a layer of zinc is applied to carbon steel or black steel pipes, they are oxidized and then become corrosion resistant. The pipe requirements are the same as before, except they are now coated. For the condenser water in a chilled water system, galvanized carbon steel pipes are far more commonly employed. To endure the severe working environment, chilled water systems that are exposed to the climate or placed near the sea may be made of galvanized carbon steel pipes. Insulated carbon steel pipes are much more pricey than carbon steel pipes. Due to their silver tint, they may easily be distinguished from carbon steel pipes. Other than that, as they are not insulated, galvanized carbon steel pipes that are used for condenser water would look significantly distinct from chilled water pipes.

Stainless Steel Pipe

For chilled water, stainless steel pipe is hardly used. They are substantially more expensive than carbon steel pipes, both galvanized and ungalvanized. For hot water systems, stainless steel pipes are far more commonly employed. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel pipes is even better than that of galvanized carbon steel pipes. Bathing, handwashing, and dishwashing are all done with hot water. As a result, water pollution is absolutely prohibited. However, to better endure the corrosive working environment, seashore chilled water pipes may choose stainless steel rather than galvanized steel.

HDPE Pipe

To replace the old carbon steel pipe, a new form of pipe was produced a few years ago. The pre-insulated HDPE (high-density polyethene) chilled water pipe is the new pipe.  As the coat of underground chilled water pipes is composed of HDPE material, some individuals may be familiar with HDPE pipes.  Pre-insulated HDPE chilled water pipes have a high-density polyethene carrier pipe. Polyethene could be totally recycled and has no harmful effects on the environment. Furthermore, HDPE has a 50-year life expectancy.

Whereas classic carbon steel pipes are welded together, modern HDPE chilled water pipelines are put together like Legos. Basically, two HDPE pipes are hung together with spacing for the socket. Next, you insert the pipes into a connector and use heating equipment to fuse the two together.
